You're bidding on a cool piece of ephemera - a certificate and receipt for inspection of two steam boilers for the Boston Theater Corporation "located in the basement of the theater", with the boiler specs, manufacturing info and signed Augist 18th, 1863 by Increase S. Hill, U.S. Inspector of Steam Boilers. Document is sealed with a great embossed red seal with a steamship design.

The adress of the theatre is not on the certificate, but it indicates the boiler was manufactured in 1854, so I think it likely that it was the Boston Theater on Washington St., which was built in 1854 and operated until 1925, when it was demolished for the construction of a new theatre which still exists today as the Boston Opera House.

Documents are matted to 8 3/4" X 16" backing board. Some soil/staining evident, as well as a substance adhered to the left margin of the certificate and some paper loss to the left edge of the receipt. SOLD AS IS AS FOUND.

Cool, unique piece of Boston theater district history, though - please review photos carefully to make your own determination of condition and appeal, and don't hesitate to ask any questions prior to bidding - thanks for looking!
