VERY SCARCE 1932 gazetted Imperial Japanese Army Navy Machine gun proficiency qualification badge. The badge is in aluminum alloy clean with silver highlights around the cherry blossom. The latch is intact. The obverse features The Type 92 heavy machine (九二式重機関銃 Kyū-ni shiki jū kikanjū), also nicknamed, the WOODPECKER by Allied forces for its characteristic battle sound. The machine gun was designed by Nambu and was manufactured at the Kokura Arsenal, right here in Kyushu. It also saw service as a light anti-aircraft weapon. These badges was established under new army training guidelines in 1882. These badges of honor were presented to the winners in the presence of the entire regiment and the badges were worn throughout the individual’s military service.
