OVERALL CONDITION: GOOD+/VERY FINE

Published in 1939 by Viking Press in New York. First edition, first printing as indicated by “First Published in April 1939” statement on copyright page with no other printings listed and Battle Hymn of the Republic endpapers. In original oatmeal cloth covered boards and a facsimile first edition jacket which protects the book’s condition from wear and presents beautifully on the shelf.

CONDITION:

The book is in GOOD+ vintage condition. Square spine with firm joints and a cracked front hinge that is a little loose but holding strong. Sun-darkened spine. Minimal to light edge wear rubbing. Cloth boards and page edges have quite a bit of soiling and foxing. Darkened endpapers. Former owner information in pencil on front endpaper (info about the original owner from her grandson is included in a polypropylene bag). Period foxing throughout the book along with some signs of finger handling and smudging. Top and bottom margins of text block with water dampening stains.

The facsimile dust jacket is unclipped and in VERY FINE/AS NEW condition, and well-protected in a brand new archival mylar wrap.
