Limoges Hand Painted Signed V Wolkoff Chateau De Blois Orange & Gold Plate 1933
Beautiful
large porcelain dinner plate. Decorated with a very nicely hand painted
brown and white scene of the Chateau de Blois over an white background.
With a thin band of gold gilding around the center scene, and a band of
orange framed in gold gilding along the border. Gold gilding along the
edge. Signed by the artist V. Wolkoff. Marked on the reverse Limoges
France in green. This is an underglaze manufacturer's mark used by
Tressemann & Vogt in Limoges France during the 1890s. Also signed on
the back with the name of the scene, Chateau de Blois and the date
1933.
"The Royal Château de Blois (French: "Château Royal de
Blois") is located in the Loir-et-Cher département in the Loire Valley,
in France, in the center of the city of Blois. The residence of several
French kings, it is also the place where Joan of Arc went in 1429 to be
blessed by the Archbishop of Reims before departing with her army to
drive the English from Orléans."
Has some wear to the gilding, but otherwise excellent condition with no chips or cracks.
Measures approximately 10 3/8 inches wide.
This is vintage and may have small in manufacture defects that do not affect the display of the piece.
