Ever feel like you are literally DROWNING in cornets and trumpets? No? Then you are not me. I need to get rid of the under-played instruments from my basement. Some of them are great, as I’ll be the first to tell you. Some are not great, and I’ll tell you that too. All of them looked interesting to me at some point. Maybe they’ll be interesting for you too.

Here, in fact, is a great one. This is my BUESCHER ’SUPER 400’ Bb CORNET. The ‘400’ designation was Buescher’s top-of-the-line model; the ’Super’ designation means large bore (before the Super 400 and Super Aristocrat, Buescher never made a large-bore horn). This one dates from the late 1950s/early 1960s, when Buescher was still independent, and committed to quality. The horn plays fantastically— it was owned by a pro who sent it to Bob Reeves for an alignment (see receipt) in 2017 (Reeves keeps records for each horn, so they will be able to re-optimize it in the future). There’s also a receipt from Anbrass in Van Nuys (they do great work) for cleaning and dent removal from the same time (I don’t see signs of any big dents). And, most of the ORIGINAL BUESCHER PAPERWORK for the horn is there too- the hang tag, the registration card, the lacquer spiel— along with the CASE KEYS and the lyre. I’m throwing in a Buescher 99D Duo-Cup mouthpiece, not original and in kinda rough shape, but it still works well with the horn and keeps it all Buescher. Selling for the same reason the pro I bought it from sold it: I need money. I’m certainly no pro player, this horn is better than I need, I have a lot of cornets, and somebody good should play the hell out of this.
