When we think of Napoleon the Old Guard is always included. The most renowned fighting men in Europe.  The "Grognards" the grumblers. They were formed from the old Consular Guard. They were the most experienced and brave men of the army. Chosen specifically for their strength and prowess. These men saw victory throughout Europe till Waterloo where they could not break Wellingtons line. They then covered the retreat of the Army.
