A PHENOMENAL BOOK OF PSALMS, PRINTED SIX YEARS BEFORE THE KING JAMES BIBLE, WITH VERY INTERESTING HANDWRITTEN MARGIN COMMENTARY FROM CIRCA THE TIME OF PRINTING!

-------------------

Also notable is the lovely binding, finely blindstamped with fleur de lys, etc, in a manner reminiscent of those lovely early English bindings like from the Caxton Press. The binding is circa the late 18th century to early 19th century.

Size: 167 x 227 mm (approx.)

Condition:

[(2), t.p., a2-a5, pp.1-95, i, (2)]

Full calf binding finely stamped in blind with fleur de lys and other Greco-Roman style motifs. Binding rubbed, more so to spine & joints, with minor losses, but generally remains attractive. Both boards remain securely attached. Spine retains the original tooled morocco label. No attached bookplates. Ink gift inscription to ffep dated 1949. Contemporary marginalia throughout, likely from the original owner, as the hand clearly dates from the early 17th century. Lacks final leaf else collates as complete. The Book of Psalms itself collates as complete, the lacking leaf is from the section called 'prayer to be used in private houses'. Text block slightly trimmed for the binding as usual. Text block toned throughout, with some mild dampstaining, some leaves ragged at edges with small closed tears, etc. Some leaves with some marginal loss. No text loss.

About WoodPaz Books:

WoodPaz Books is an online antiquarian and rare book shop dedicated to great customer service and secure eco-friendly packaging.
