This auction is for one 1959 Franklin Half Dollar Proof in BU condition. A mark under the eye of Franklin prevent this from being a Gem BU example. A total of 1,149,291 Franklin Half Dollar Proofs were minted in Philadelphia in 1959.

The Franklin Half Dollar coin series, minted from 1948 to 1963 commemorates the 200th anniversary of Benjamin Franklin's birth. It replaced the Walking Liberty Half Dollar design, which had been in circulation since 1916.

The obverse of the coin features a portrait of Benjamin Franklin, facing left, designed by John R. Sinnock, the Chief Engraver of the United States Mint at the time. The reverse typically displays the Liberty Bell, a symbol of American independence, flanked by a small eagle to the right. The inscription "E PLURIBUS UNUM" is situated above the bell, and the denomination "HALF DOLLAR" appears below.

The Franklin Half Dollar was struck in 90% silver and 10% copper with each coin containing 0.3617 troy ounces of pure silver. The diameter of the Franklin Half Dollar is approximately 30.6 millimeters, making it slightly larger than the modern Kennedy Half Dollar.

Pictures of the obverse and reverse are provided so you can make a final determination regarding coin grade. If you have any questions about this or any of our other auctions, please drop us a note! Good Luck!
