This poster was originally released in 1938 to promote travel to Hawaii by Pan American Airlines (Pan Am) on the Boeing 314 Clipper seaplane. Only 12 of these "flying boats" were made between 1938 and 1941. During World War II, the fleet was pressed into service to ferry troops and equipment to the European and Pacific fronts. The last Clipper was retired in 1946, after the construction of long concrete runways necessitated by the war made the plane's water landing features obsolete and uneconomical. A fantastic piece of history, and a glimpse into the lux world of air travel before the war that changed it all.
