RENE BURRI - Pour Le Corbusier. Notre-Dame du Haut, France, 1955.

"I have always been more fascinated by chaos than by balance and order. Human beings interest me more than empty spaces. Even as a student, I wanted to go out on the street and shoot films. In 1950, I wandered around the South of France with my friend Serge Libiszewski in search of new impressions. We hitchhiked to Marseille, where we more or less accidentally stumbled across the enormous shell of Le Corbusier's Unité d'Habitation. What a revelation! Deeply impressed, I took photographs of the coarse grid pattern on the façades and the dramatic tumultuous rough forms on the roof terrace. After that, Le Corbusier and his buildings were always on my mind. At the beginning of 1955, on my way to Paris, I took the first photo 'history' of the almost finished pilgrimage church in Ronchamp."
