Genuine, authentic, original typed letter signed and personal War vintage photograph of Hauptmann der Reserve Erich Roeseke.

Roeseke was a highly decorated German Army combat engineering "sabatoge" and tank infantry commander during WW2.

During WW2, Roeseke volunteered as Gebirgsjaeger(Mountain Trooper), trained as a Machine Gun specialist and airborne parachutist, became a combat engineering attack boat commander on the Nile River/Suez Canal during the North African Campaign, participated in Operation Barbarossa, Leader of a Cossack Platoon in the Battles of Greece, Albania, Yugoslavia, and ultimately considered "Sabotage Specialist - Dangerous Prisoner" in Allied imprisonment after being captured as Leader of a Kampfgruppe with Panzergrenadier Divison "Brandenburg" in the Battles of East Prussia and Silesia.

Because of his military service, he was awarded the German Cross in Gold, the Close Combat Clasp in Silver, the Infantry Assault Badge in Silver, the Wound Badge in Gold, the Bravery Award for Eastern People First and Second Class, the Guerrilla Warfare Badge, 2 Tank Destruction Badges in Silver, the Combat Engineering(explosives, mine laying) Helmsman Badge, the Golden Party Badge, and the Iron Cross First and Second Class.

And because of his extreme personal bravery and successful military leadership in combat, Roeseke was awarded the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross on April 14 1945!

The one page, legal size, typed letter signed, on his personal rubber stamped name and address stationery, Leinfelden, May 12 1986, to Cpt. David Sims in Hawaii, friendly letter explaining that his personal War decorations and documents were stolen, but sending one personal photograph(unsigned) of his being awarded the Close Combat Clasp in Silver by then Batallion Hauptmann Max Wandrey(later Knights Cross Oak Leaves winner, KIA 1945) from his personal War album, and mentioning that as an Allied Prisoner he had been classified as a "SS Hauptmann"(which he considered an honour) and a "Sabotage Specialist - Dangerous Prisoner"(the letter should be fully translated)and signed at conclusion with full name signature in blue fountain pen ink, postwar.  Both the typed letter signed and War photograph are in very good condition.  Total: 2 items
