Extremely rare item. Napoleon instructed his engineers and hydrographers to survey the Dalmatian coast in Present day Croatia following French victories on the battlefield. Famous French hydrographic engineer Charles-François Beautemps-Beaupré headed a team that completed their survey work in 1809. This was the first hydrographic survey that was ever completed regarding the Dalmatian coast and Dubrovnik area. This first edition map was issued in 1821 with the title "Plan des Ports de Molonta" which is located south of Dubrovnik, Croatia. The title cartouche states that it was published "by order of the King" and this refers to the fact that Louis XVIII was King of France in 1821 when the map was printed.
