A wonderful Victorian dyed pressed horn & porcelain plaque pendant.

The plaque is transfer painted and features a very popular design of the period, known variously as the 'vagabond boy', 'green hat boy' or 'tyrolean boy' (which fits with the Austrian appearance).

These plaques were brought back to Whitby and used extensively in jewellery made by the 19th century jet workers. Here we have a rare dyed pressed horn version, a material used at the time to simulate jet. Now very collectable in its own right!

The pendant is black with a layered frame and the painting is very vivid and in wonderful condition. There is a built in loop to top where typically a black ribbon would be thread through to wear.

Measurements: 70mm by 50mm (including top loop) with a depth of 11mm.

In good antique condition; a particularly good example from the era. There is a curved screw head in centre of back, unsure why it is there but very old.

Please do view all the photographs, which give clear honest representation of this gorgeous pendant. Will enhance any antique collection.
