This interesting, old Tribal Tiki  New Zealand jade pendant was made by a Maori carver.  The Hei-Tiki image is of great historical significance to the Maori people and represents either a memorial to ancestors or the goddess of childbirth.
This delicate, finely polished open work design pendant has its head facing to the left with contrasting unpolished eyes and mouth.
The thinly carved, translucent Pounamu nephrite jade pendant was traditionally highly esteemed by the Maori for its beauty and great hardness.
The fine chain came with the pendant from the estate but might or might not be original.
A sweet ,very old Maori Tiki translucent jade pendant!
