Limoges A Schmidt Hand Painted Rose & Gold 10 1/2 Inch Plate 1890s E

Antique porcelain dinner plate made in Limoges France. Decorated with gold gilding along the edge and gold floral Art Nouveau style scrollwork, with gold framed hand painted pink roses over black backgrounds. This pattern is listed on Replacements under A. Schmidt & Sons as ASM7.  Marked on the reverse with a gold crown over a W. This is an overglaze decorating mark.
Gold decorating marks were used to cover up the original manufacturer. You can see a green Limoges France where the gold has mark has been partially scratched off. It has a red retailer's mark that reads A. Schmidt & Son New York. There is also a gold anchor mark with a B at the top, which is copying the English 18th century Bow China mark.

Has some usage wear consistent with age, a lot of wear to the gilding and some to the black, but mostly along the inner rim of the plate. Also has a large bruise to the back edge. Still an absolutely beautiful piece, with no chips or cracks.

Measures approximately 10 1/2 inches wide.

This is an antique and may have small in manufacture defects that do not affect the display of the piece.
