Item Height 4 inch or 10 cm Old Tupton Ware is a tube lined porcelain which because of it's skilled manufacturing procedure has to be fired three times with each time a risk of cracking. This alone explains why so many older brands have ceased trading and what is left very expensive. Every procedure takes a skilled worker and with all being hand made hence a slow, limited production. This is what makes Old Tupton Ware a today's collectible and tomorrows antique. 1/ Slip clay is pored into mould, dried, removed, cleaned and made ready for firing at 800 C. 2/ A skilled worker with many years experience then traces the pattern onto the item. Then it is tube lined where the clay outline is applied by clay being squeezed through a nozzle, being very similar to icing a cake. Back in the kiln, fired again at 800 C. 3/ Once cooled it is hand painted by skilled craftsmen. When dry a a gloss glaze is applied and fired again at 1,100 C. After going through quality control inspection then ready to be boxed for sale. |
