  • About 1,000 Collins HF-2050s were produced in total , and most of them were delivered to Canada for military use. The unit on display also has a military nameplate ( R-5099 / U ) .
  • This receiver uses DSP and is well-known for its transparent reception sound. The front panel design is simple and only includes basic operation functions.

  • Currently, when the power is turned on, the POWER ON BIT is activated, and after a few seconds the BIT PASSED message appears, indicating reception and various controls are possible, but after about 30 seconds the Fault lamp lights up and all other controls are disabled. At that time, the A2 FAULT message may appear.
  • In the past, the Fault lamp would come on and reception would become impossible about five minutes after the power was turned on . 
  • To address this issue , we drilled a hole in the panel on the top of the device and installed a fan to force air cool the CPU .
  • There were "repaired/calibrated" stickers on the top and bottom panels of this device, but the stickers are torn because the top and bottom panels had to be removed to install the fan. 
  • No other work has been done on the device other than installing the fan.
  • We visually inspected the inside of the equipment to confirm that it was stationary, but we did not find any parts that were visually suspected to be abnormal, such as burnt parts.
  • Currently, the fan wiring has been removed for this inspection, and the upper and lower panels of the device are each secured to the main body with four screws (all remaining screws are still present).
  • Due to my age, I have no energy and am not confident in maintaining it, so I am selling it in this condition.
  • Includes military part number R-5099/U, English manual (copy, 3-ring binder), and AC cord.
  • In addition, the metal fitting for the spare fuse is broken in image 10, but this is for storing the spare fuse and does not affect the operation of the unit.
  • As it stands now, please accept NC/NR.

  • An OM who has serviced multiple HF-2050s commented that "Most of the BIT error indications are caused by the intrusion of AC pulsating current into the power supply DC output, which is judged to be DC unstable, and in his experience he has been able to resolve the issue by re-cap (replacing with new ones) the large-capacity capacitors in the power supply's DC voltage smoothing circuit." It is unclear whether this measure will resolve the fault in this case, but please use it as a reference.
