Extremely impressive piece. The bolt is first thrown about 1” out and then with another twist of the key it extends to about 2”. A much smaller one was sold a Cowan’s auction in February of 2017, they described it as 18th century American, however I’m not sure how they arrived at that conclusion with it not being signed. The front plate on this is about 24 1/2” and has caked on layers of old paint, The back plates are about 17 1/2” x 6 1/2” x 7/8”. There is some separation at the seam. Seems to function as it should, it’s a bit difficult to turn the handles given the strength of the spring and everything shows considerable wear.
