Fun, Old, and Rare bookends of a 3-dimensional owl perched on an open book, with a background relief of trees.  Colors are orange, blue and gold.

This design is the work of Julio Kilenyi, a graduate of Royal Art School in Budapest, Hungary, and was copyrighted by Dymalkon Metals Corp. in October, 1919.  Kilenyi had his work produced also by P. Mori & Son, Inc, trading as Galvano Bronze.

Dymalkon was incorporated in Croton-on-Hudson, NY in 1917 and dissolved in 1920.  Their mark of the copyright C inside an indented square is on the backs.

Both Dymalkon and Galvano (along with a few other companies clustered around NYC in the early 1900's) used electro-forming (also known as bronze-clad) to produce decorative household objects that had the look, feel, and heft of solid bronze yet were affordable by the middle class.

Condition is fine:  no breaks in the cladding, just a bumped back corner and some nicks and dings.  Paint is original.  Both pieces sit flat and stable.

7 inches tall; 4 3/8 inches side to side; 3 1/4 inches front to back.  And weighing 2 3/4 pounds each.

Perfect gift for the scholar inspired by Athena's familiar.
