Hewlett-Packard scientific programmable calculator HP-10C with pouch & its book
in very good cosmetic and working condition

Selling my own collection acquired for decades, only made of perfectly working calculators and in excellent cosmetic condition.

Have a look to my other HP calculators and items coming for sale!

History

“While lowest in number, this was the last 10C series calculator to be introduced. Thanks to ever improving technology, this was the first series in which every model was programmable and like other early models, the owner was introduced to programming right at the front of the manual.

The only 10C series model with a single (gold) shift key, this model concentrated on the basics. Its feature set was similar to the HP-31E except that it dropped built-in English/metric conversions (but printed most of them on the back) and added:

ü →H and →H.M.S conversions.

ü Engineering display format.

ü Basic statistics (mean, linear estimate, correlation coefficient, linear regression).

ü More storage registers (10 at startup, but registers were automatically converted to program space as needed).

ü Programming with the requisite set of keys for conditional tests, SST, BST, INT, FRAC, GTO and MEM.

ü Like all 10C series models, it had the advantage of running for months to years instead of hours on a set of batteries. The record so far is 34 years on the original set of batteries!

The programming model was quite basic. Gotos went to line numbers and there were no insertion/deletion keys. For easier editing GTO.## went to the line number rather than entering a GTO into the program. Just two conditionals were provided (x=0 and x≤y). Of course, any test could be synthesized with those. There were no subroutines and no flags.

The HP-10C started out with 10 storage registers (R0-R9 with the statistics functions also using R0-R5.) Only 9 lines of program space were reserved but as programs grew longer, registers at the top (R9) were automatically converted to program space allowing a maximum of 79 program lines with no storage registers.

Condition

The HP-10C presented in this auction is in very good cosmetic and working condition. I tested the working condition with 3 LR44 Alkaline 1.5v batteries and I executed the test procedure (maintaining the x key pressed while turning ON the calculator) and I got the expected working condition result (see pictures). I also made some calculus to enjoy the calculator.

Ö               Rubber feet are in very good condition,

Ö               the instructions plate on the back is in perfect condition as well as the keyboard plate,

Ö               the battery door is in perfect condition,

Ö               the display metal bezel is in very good condition,

Ö               no repeating or sticky key,

Ö               no missing or not working display segment or indicator,

Ö               no engraving,

Ö               the pouch is in very good condition,

Ö               the HP-10C Owner’s Handbook is, I think, a reproduction, but, for me, it looks and feels in better quality than the original one as it is made with a bigger format and a heavier paper. Sincerely, HP would not have been able to produce a manual in this quality for costs reasons! It is in excellent condition with no page torn nor engraving.

IT IS A COLLECTOR ITEM needing a good home and a showcase, due to its age, I would recommend not using it on a day-to-day basis to preserve it from the years.
