Americans spent over $3 billion last year fixing their smartphone screens

One in three Americans have broken a phone in the past year. With the convenience of having a computer in our pocket to access email, listen to music, post on social media, and purchase anything within seconds, we are addicted to our phones now more than ever. 

With about three-quarters of U.S. adults owning a smartphone, one in three (31 percent) have broken a phone in the past year. If you've broken more than one, you're not alone! Of that percentage, one in four (22 percent) have broken three or more. The average time from purchase to breaking your phone is approximately 10 weeks.

70 million smartphones are lost each year, with only 7 percent recovered. 4.3 percent of company-issued smartphones are lost or stolen every year.

Top causes of accidental iPhone damage are:

  • 38% Falling out of the user's hand
  • 28% Falling into liquid
  • 15% Falling out of the user's lap
  • 5% Getting knocked off of a table
  • 9% Having liquid spilled on it
  • 5% Lost or misplaced
