To avoid cumbersome chain required to keep drogues submerged below stormy seas, Smith developed the unique "DROGUE TAIL™" so mariners can easily attach a spare anchor on the backside of the SHARK™. Smith say's “It’s complicated to deploy chain, not to mention, the cost of splicing chain into anchor rode.” A small ground anchor is more compact and most sailors already store a spare anchor in their lazarette. Any style anchor from 10 to 50-pounds can be shackled onto the SHARK’s drogue tail™. No trip line required for recovery.

Slow your boat down with a stern deployed SHARK™ to improve steering and to reduce broaching when running before large seas. The SHARK™ is also an approved emergency steering device if your rudder is damaged or your steering cable snaps.
What makes the SHARK™ unique is that its mouth is held open with a thick-diameter Para-Ring® built from stainless steel. The Para-Ring® eliminates the shroud lines required by all the other speed-limiting drogues. Zero shroud lines equal zero tangles.
A “drogue tail” is affixed to the Para-Ring® with the bitter end passing through the red canopy and ending in a stainless spliced eye. The spliced eye is where you attach a mushroom anchor so you can sink the SHARK ™ under the waves. Weight behind the SHARK™ permits you to use a cockpit winch to recover the SHARK™ because there's only rope in front of the drogue. All the other drogues on the market require 20- to 40-feet of chain connected in front of their drogues which can chew up a boat's deck and hull.
