F&A:

Q:

will this work on a garmin 2595 lmt

A:

I have a 2595LMT. It did improve reception for me. My reception improved about 1-2 "bars" (referring to the antenna bar icon on the display). However, do not expect miracles. I live in the northern Detroit suburbs about 30 miles from the city, which is right on the edge of where reception fades out. I usually get r? see more

A necessary accessory if you own the Nuvi 3590LMT ~ Modest improvement at best
By Expressed Reviews TOP 500 REVIEWER on February 27, 2013

I purchased a Garmin Nuvi 3590LMT last July, and have never been able to receive any traffic information. Prior to owning the Garmin device, I owned a TomTom 2535TM that had no problem whatsoever obtaining the FM signal required for traffic updates. Both the TomTom and Garmin were installed on my dashboard, with the traffic receiver hanging down below the GPS unit. The reason why I purchased the Garmin device is because the TomTom had a problem with premature battery failure. I had gone through several different TomTom units, and all failed within months, due to the battery being insufficient to hold a charge. TomTom ended up recalling the devices, but by that time I had decided that I would make the switch to Garmin. Although the TomTom 2535TM caused headaches for the people who purchased it, in my opinion if it didn't have the battery issue, it was a superior GPS device than the Garmin 3590LMT. When I say superior, I'm referring to the fact that there were never any issues with receiving traffic reception, and once received, the data presented was far superior than the data presented on Garmin devices. It would give you the exact amount of traffic delay in minutes, than ask you if you wanted to be directed to a different route. All of this leads me to the item being reviewed here.

The Garmin 3590LMT and I suppose other Garmin units as well, do not have adequate FM receivers built into the cord that also supplies the power to the unit. The 3590LMT was the top of the line Garmin GPS device for 2012. For the hefty price charged for the unit, one would expect that it would be capable of superb FM reception for the traffic receiver. Unfortunately, such is not the case.

Quick solution for poor traffic reception.

While not as sophisticated as some of the other answers to improve traffic receiver performance, this item did move my range of reception about 10 miles further out. I live where there is spotty traffic transmitter coverage, now with the external antenna I've got decent reception around the major metropolitan areas. It's set-up and transfer from vehicle to vehicle is easy - I have 3 different cars where I use the Nuvi. This item is well worth the price.

Great for those on the very edge of HD reception

The Garmin Antenna Extension Cable provides modest improvement, but even modest can mean a lot for HD receivers.

Since switching from a unit with analog traffic reception to one with HD, I've noticed that my traffic updates are more frequent when I have reception; but, I have reception a lot less. I now believe that, unlike my HD radio, Garmin HD Traffic units cannot receive regular analog signals (please comment if this is mistaken so I can update my review). I live just outside of the Wahington, D.C. Metro area, so my signals tend to be a mix of HD and analog. Here, this antenna has made my navigation system's traffic feature work most of the time, whereas it worked infrequently in the past. As soon as I get closer to the city, the system works great with or without the antenna.

I would recommend this for folks who find themselves right on the edge of HD reception. If you sometimes get signal and sometimes do not, this antenna will be a lifesaver. If you never get reception, don't expect it to change anything.

Finally, I have heard that people use the antenna to relocate their GPS further inside the vehicle; I tried moving my unit around the car with and without the antenna, and can attest to the fact that it does help. I'm not sure why you would want the unit away from the windshield (you can mount the unit on your dash if window-mounting is against the law in your area), but if you want to do so, this unit will help.

Better reception at greater distance.
By S. Zuercher on January 7, 2014

The Garmin itself, gives pretty adequate reception, but this steps it up a notch. The thing that one needs to remember is that where ever you are needs to be broadcasting their signal for traffic signals to show up on the Garmin in the first place. But when they are broadcasting this antenna will give a heads up a little further away, although arguably the Garmin unit may have enough range to do the trick for many people. But for those of us who like to be a step-up prepared, this is pretty neat.

This little antenna made a huge difference in the traffic service availbility. Not sure why this isn't standard right out of the box.

The price was a little high for a piece of wire and a connector, but I still liked it and would do it again.

Made the traffic on Garmin GPS usable

I got no traffic until I used this antenna. Now I get pretty good reception. Considering how little this must cost, it seems silly that Garmin does not include it with the GPS unit.

Made my traffic reception much better.
By Robert Newbold on August 16, 2014

This improved my traffic signal from now bars to 3 in some locations and from 3 bars to 5 bars n others. When I used the basic GTM36 cable with my Garmin I could only get traffic if I looped the cable over a visor. Not very practical. I added this antenna and kept the GPS power cord out of the way and just mounted the small antenna wire up to the windshield and behind the visor, pretty much out of the way. Overall a big improvement.
