SATSUMA by B G & W (Bates, Gildea & Walker) Transferware 21" Platter c.1879

Offering an Antique Aesthetic Movement Transferware Platter by (B G &W) Bates, Gildea & Walker “Satsuma” c.1879.  This rare platter has a striking medallion in the center of birds on a cherry blossom branch, and the trim has various blocks of bamboo and geometric patterns popular with this transferware.  The colors are vibrant blues, blacks and grays.

The platter has the distinctive creamy beige crackled glaze that is famous in Satsuma pottery.  It does however have two chips on its underside and a small chip in the paint, all on the bottom, not uncommon with the age of the piece, please see photos.

Underside is back stamped with the Bird and Diamond Registry that Bates, Gildea & Walker used from 1878 – 1882; English Registry dates the platter circa 1879

The platter measures 21” long x 16 ½” wide
