Illustrated with 24 gorgeous full-page engravings. Condition: VG-. These books are from the Rare Book Room of the College of Holy Names in Oakland, California, and were well cared for. These books bear only minimal, academic library markings, consisting of a university bookplate inside cover, sparse catalog markings in pencil on back side of title page, and a library card pastedown at rear. Covers and spine show some wear at extremities, particularly at corners and spine ends. Volume 1 is more worn, with a small, closed chip at base of spine and some fraying at corners. The covers of vol. 1 are also showing some wear at hinges, but remain firmly affixed. Otherwise, these books are pristine: Pages are bright, clean, and free of any underlining or marginalia. Practically no foxing! Binding is firm, and all pages are present as issued. Illustrations are bold, clean, and vivid. An excellent collectors copy of a scarce work on Greek history.
