An amazonite is a variety of microcline, a mineral from the feldspar family whose chemical composition (KAlSi_3O_8,) is identical to that of orthoclase: it is in fact the low temperature polymorph, which belongs to the triclinic crystalline system. Its name comes from the Amazon River.
It is an ornamental stone of green, bluish green, semi-opaque blue-green color (its color is due to the presence of lead). She is sensitive to pressure.
