A programme, approx. 14 x 22, 4pp., three illusts. inc. port. of Shipton, sometime taped along fold and now neatly restored, but with some discolouration from the original tape.


Eric Shipton was one of the foremost climbers of the 1930s. He took part in several Everest expeditions, including the 1951 reconnaissance. The 1936 Everest expedition was led by Hugh Ruttledge, and included Shipton among the climbers. The present items is a programme for a lecture Shipton gave the year after his return from Everest. The text of the programme provides biographical details of Shipton, and brief information about the 1936 Everest expedition. One of the illustrations is a group portrait of the 1936 expedition members.
