Description

Here we have a fantastic "argent dore" (gold-plated sterling) watch pendant with sapphire-blue guilloche details by the legendary 19th century watch maker, Haas Neveux (later known as Haas & Cie). Since being founded in Geneva, Switzerland in 1848, Haas has created some of the most sought-after pendant pieces in existence today. This Art Deco-era piece was created while they were still operating under the name Haas Neveux.

This antique art deco manual winding pendant watch is in virtually flawless condition, with no visible defects to note. It was recently professionally serviced by a top professional watchmaker (not a hobbyist) and is running perfectly. Scroll down to see all images!

The 27" chain includes twelve 9/16" sections of translucent sea-blue guilloche enamel between opaque white endcaps. These occur roughly every 2&1/4" on the 27" chain, and complement the gorgeous sky-blue guilloche enamel which graces the exterior of the pendant. When viewed together as a whole, the effect is really quite stunning!

Within the "egg" -shell backing, there are several groups of markings. One set says "ARGENT DORE" above the Haas Neveau mark: "H.N.C.," in an oval over a what appears to be a leaping cat. Another is a "bear-standing-erect-facing-left," which according to http://www.925-1000.dk/foreign_marks.html, is a Swiss government mark from between the years 1882 and 1934 indicating .875 purity silver or better. (This mark also helps to date the original manufacture between 1882 and 1934.) Another mark, "0.935," we presume is the manufacturer-stated purity of the silver, Another set of marks might be manufacturers numbers or serial numbers: "701" over "205." And finally, on the lip of the open watch movement housing, "195" (see DRAM images). On one of the links which connect the chainlink and pendant, the marking "ARGENT" can be spotted.On another, there is a peculiar 4 letter glyph that is inscrutable to us, even under magnification. On the loop on top of the egg, there is the impression of what might be a "D," or otherwise what remains of a purity mark (see DRAM images).

There is no doubt that a lot of thought and care went into making this wonderful piece, and we already know the next owner will fall in love with this rare and beautiful item.
