2006-2008 YAMAHA YZF-R1  OEM size is 530x118 X-ring chain, 17t Ft. Sprocket, 45t Rear Sprocket
2004-2005 YAMAHA YZF-R1  OEM size is 530x116 X-ring chain, 17t Ft. Sprocket, 45t Rear Sprocket
1998-2003 YAMAHA YZF-R1  OEM size is 530x114 X-ring chain, 16t Ft. Sprocket, 43t Rear Sprocket

 

For QUICK ACCELERATION gear ratio (quick off the line, quicker roll on's, easier wheelies),
       Use a 16t (-1t) Front sprocket . This is the DEFAULT that will be sent unless otherwise specified.
       This is a versatile ratio change because you can switch back to the stock 17t size with the same
       chain length supplied with the 16t.
       Your bike will be quicker, but your top speed will be less, and your top gear cruising rpm's will be higher.



For EXTREME QUICK ACCELERATION gear ratio (crazy quick off the line, even quicker roll on's, VERY easy wheelies)
       Request a 16t (-1t) front and a 47t (+2t) rear sprocket in the "Add Message" tab during check out.
       This is a versatile ratio change because you can switch back to the stock 17t size with the same
       chain length supplied with the 16t.
       Your bike will be much quicker, but your top speed will be less, and your top gear cruising rpm's will be much higher.




For FREEWAY GEARING  FASTER TOP SPEED, and LOWER HIGHWAY CRUISING RPM's, better hwy. gas mileage.
       Request a 17t Front and a 43t rear sprocket in the "Add Message" tab during checkout.
       Your bike will be faster on top end, but be slightly less responsive in lower rpm's.
 


 
For OEM Factory Gearing , same ratio as delivered when new..
         OEM Gearing is the "Happy Medium" of off the line acceleration and top end speed, with the least amount
       of compromise on either end. If you are using your entire gearbox as supplied from Yamaha, then stock
       gearing is for you. Best all around ratio as calculated by Yamaha engineers.

Teeth and Sizes Explained...
**  ONE tooth on the rear is a very minor change, but one tooth on the front is a significant change
**   A -1t front sprocket change is EXACTLY the same ratio change as +3t rear sprocket change. (Quick Acceleration)
**   A -2t front sprocket change is EXACTLY the same ratio change as +6t rear sprocket change (Very Extreme Quick Acceleration change)
**   A +1t front sprocket change is EXACTLY the same as a -3t rear only change with stock front sprocket. (Freeway Gearing)
**   A 520 size chain is approx. 2mm narrower than a 525 chain, and 4mm narrower than a 530 chain. Less mass equals lighter weight equals easier to spin, but the ratio (teeth size)   change makes the big difference. The sprocket width matches the chain width where it rides on the sprockets, thus a 520 chain must use 520 sprockets, and a 525 chain must use 525 sprockets, etc...
**   RPE Motorcycle has chain and sprocket conversion kits available in 520 , 525 , and 530 sizes for most motorcycles.  Different prices for each... Call for pricing.
**  A larger or smaller rear sprocket number of teeth size requires a different chain length, however +1 or -1 tooth on the front sprocket only will use the same chain length
**  A ratio change to improve low end acceleration will take away from top end speed,   and..  a ratio change to improve top end speed will reduce low end throttle response.
    Stock gearing is the best all around gearing as calculated by the manufacturer for this model.

    Half the Power Loss (Compared with Normal O-Ring)  X-Ring construction reduces friction by twisting between the side plates instead of being squashed.
