On Jul 3, 1996 the movie Hippie Revolution opened at the Roxie Cinema, San Francisco's longest running movie house. Filmmaker Jack O'Connell made the original film in 1967, showing the freeform lifestyle of the residents of the Haight-Ashbury district. United Artists acquired the film, which had limited exposure as an exploitation film; during the '80s O'Connell regained the film, but it took several more years before he could acquire the rights to show the film. The film stars Today Malone and Herb Caen.
