About the listing and how to buy:

All sizes are in centimetres, the Depth (from wall out) is 15cm, Height 7.3, 10, 12.5 or 15cm. Length comes in 5 ranges, when you decide on beam size you require, e.g. 128cm x 15cm x 10cm, please select the range under which that length falls (in this case it would be 121cm-140cm)
Presented pictures are for demonstrative purposes only, at the check out PLEASE always advise the following:

-          Corbels shape (A, B, C or D)

-          Type of wall the shelf is intended for (solid or false/plasterboard)

Rustic Wood - Important – Please read before you buy:

Please satisfy yourself that the oak is fit for intended use, e.g. is not infringing any of the building regulations laws, can be securely fit and meet your measures/aesthetic expectations.

As Oak is a natural product each piece may be different in appearance and slightly in colour. The grain of each beam will vary, some may have a straighter grain than others. Presented pictures are for illustrative purposes only and serve to demonstrate what we can do for you with regard to colour and edge finishes.

Our character beams may already contain surface cracks - caused by the natural drying process, most contain knots, swirls and other imperfections, knots, pin holes, & waney edges. For solid oak (as opposed to engineered one) splits/cracks are very natural and NORMAL, even for oak seasoned for years, and this is because when the board is first cut/mill is then put away and stored for years not touched. Once we process it, internal tensions/pressures will start to play its part and make the wood split.

A small percentage of beams have area's of pin holing which are always treated for woodworm.

Although properly air dried & seasoned, it is not unusual for the oak to develop further shrinkage, movement, splits and cracks as it acclimatises to your properties temperature, some small splits (especially at the end of shelf/beam might occur in Prime wood as well). Please do not expose your oak to direct sun/log burner heat or a damp/wet conditions as it’ll cause further cracking.

We recommend that if the beams are going above a log burner, fire or any intense heat, that the heat should be gradually increased over a period of a few weeks or more if possible.

· Regular oiling/waxing will help keep the wood afresh and moisturized, preventing the wood from excessive dryness & splitting.

Any of the above can only add a great deal of character to the beam.

Finishes/colours explained:

Oak wood is quite cheeky when it comes to treating it in a way that two pieces treated with same oil/stain might return different shades. This is due to a number of factors, such as moisture, age, grade and so on. Hence producing or colour matching is very tricky indeed and we would rather use “similar” than “exact” definition when going about this.

Below we’ll try and explain our finishes we do, starting from the lightest one, all of them are natural, matt finishes and we only use highest quality products of Fiddes&Sons:

Untreated oak – it’s simple as its sound, well not really, again, each piece of oak will be different in colour, one darker than the other. Sometimes one end of beam/shelf might be light and the other darker. On the good note though, its best way to have it if you are not sure at the point of ordering. Neutral & natural, gives you unlimited possibilities to play with ;)

Clear hard wax oil – gives nice and natural finish, sometimes is a bit “cold”, very durable and resistant to wear and tear. Good for floating shelves, and contemporary looking pieces.

Danish oil – warm and deep, highlights all the wood’s imperfections such as knots/splits etc. ideal for rustic wood.

Medium oak – nicely brownish, deep and warm finish, add elegance and style to any piece of oak.

Teak oil – darkest of them all, deep brown with blackish shades. Will definitely become a focal point in any settings for its dramatic, sometimes eerie look.

Delivery and returns - IMPORTANT - please inspect your parcel before signing, if you have any doubts as of the integrity of the content of the parcel (e.g. the packaging is damaged, even a small dent etc.) please either open the box up to check or if not possible/practicable, please make a note “DAMAGED” or “UNCHECKED” – the delivery courier has to assist with this. Please still accept the parcel but ask the courier to make a note and don’t let him go without him doing so, and contact us immediately. If you/or the courier could also take some pics at this stage it would help tremendously later. Otherwise we will not be able to make a claim and would also delay any refunds due to you – so your assistance in this matter would be mutually beneficial.

No fuss returns policies – if you don’t like out product – simply wrap it back up as arrived in its original packaging (to prevent any damages), and we do the rest – organise the collection courier and issue a refund minus the courier fees which typically is about £15.

Payment:

We appreciate payment as soon as your purchase is made to enable us to proceed with your order as soon as possible, we accept PayPal or Bank transfer, or cash on collection (by appointment only) – please note, we can only start working on your order when we receive payment from you.

Delivery, Returns & Exceptions:

We will despatch your item upon receiving your payment, depending on extra work required (oiling, edge profiling etc.) it might take up to 12 working days to receive your item.

On the delivery day, our couriers will advise 2 hour window, if not convenient you will be given a few options to have it redelivered, left somewhere safe etc. (they normally sending email and sometimes text msg as well)

For an additional piece of mind, You will be given tracking number for every parcel.
