Selling my 85 GMC Seirra C1500 short bed pickup. Same body style as the
classic Chevy C10 square body that was built from 73-87, it was
originally equipped with a 305, till I swapped in a 5.3 LS engine from a
90,000 mile 04 Chevrolet Tahoe in it's place. I've driven it over
10,000 miles since I completed the swap in the spring of 2016 while
working on the restoration. Since the Tahoe was a 4wd, I couldn't use
the 4l60, so the engine is backed up by a th400 transmission that was
freshened up when the swap was done.
The truck had been in storage over 12 years when I bought it, & has an absolutely rust free body, it needed very little prep
before being repainted in it's original white last summer after the
engine swap was completed. Since it's not a garage queen, but a regular
driver, the paint is no longer perfect, but still rates an 8 or better.
At some point before I bought the truck, a roll pan had been installed,
& the drip rails removed, & I left it that way when it was
painted. New body bushings, core support bushings, & complete new
weather stripping were installed. Inside the cab, it has a new
headliner, carpet & matching floor mats, & seat recovered with original style cover. The power window & door locks
function as they should. New speakers in the dash & behind the seat
are hooked to a Custom Auto Sound vintage style stereo radio with iPod
control & aux input. The original door panels are very nice with no
chalking or cracks. All gauges work as they should & the cluster is
back lit with led bulbs. Has a sliding rear glass & windows are
tinted all around. The only major deficiency inside is 3 minor cracks in
the original dash, that happened when I removed the dash during the
build.
Under the hood rest a stock fuel injected 5.3 LS engine that now has about 100k miles on it, with the ecm
receiving a street tune from DBR Performance in Spring Hill. I replaced the AC compressor recently after it started
making some noise, along with
the dryer, with new AC Delco units. I have not had a chance to get it
charged yet, but it's on my to do list. The dual exhaust exits from
Camaro LS3 manifolds into Walker Quiet Flow mufflers, so it's quiet as
stock. The rear end has 3.42 gears, so it is a great driver around town,
& cruises effortlessly at 75-80 on the interstate, all the while
getting some pretty decent mileage. The Cooper 255-70 tires were put on
earlier in the summer & are on 15x8 Eagle aluminum wheels all the
way around. Stance was improved by dropping it 2" in the back & 1"
in the front along with KYB Performance shocks on all 4 corners. Brakes front & back were completely rebuilt, including new rubber lines.
The truck is sharp, & a complete joy to drive, it gets compliments
every time I am out in it. Everything works properly, & is squeak
& rattle free, especially for a 33 year old truck. It is
utterly reliable & I drive it every chance I get. If I did not have a
company truck, this would be my daily driver. The only reason
I'm selling the truck is because I have other projects & I need
to concentrate on completing them.
