Just Beautiful 1971/74 Rolex Oyster ‘Sigma Dial’ Datejust Gents Vintage Watch

The Overview

This is a stunning example of the Rolex Oyster Datejust dating from 1971 (made) and 1974 (sold). Very rarely it’s the Sigma dial version meaning the applied hour batons are solid white gold – they’re usually steel and tend to corrode over the years. It’s also the smooth bezel model – 99% of these have a fluted style bezel. The steel case is in excellent condition with only the most minimal signs of wear. The original Rolex signed steel/pearlescent ‘Sigma’ dial is untouched and in excellent condition. The applied white gold hour batons and steel hands provide the softest contrast to the dial and are perfectly framed by the smooth bezel. The very high grade Rolex signed automatic movement is again in excellent condition and has just been fully serviced by our professional watchmaker. Very rarely we also have the original guarantee certificate – as few as 1 in 75/100 watches of this paperwork. To complete this beautiful piece we’ve added a new, super quality Hirsch ‘London’ black alligator strap with a steel aftermarket Rolex buckle.

My asking price is below the value for a watch of this condition and rarity, particularly with the continual rise in value of vintage watches of this high quality. In view of the high grade Swiss movement, I will include a 12 month written guarantee on the movement.

The Case

The steel case is in excellent condition with only the most minimal signs of wear. The case measures 36mm across, excluding the Rolex signed crown and 43mm long including the lugs. The inside case is signed ‘Montres Rolex SA Geneva Switzerland’, ‘Patented Stainless Steel’ and the case number is ‘1600’. The age reference is ‘IV.71’ dating the year of manufacture as 1971 (as mentioned, it was solid in 1974).

The Dial

The original Rolex signed steel/pearlescent ‘Sigma’ dial is untouched and in excellent condition. The applied white gold hour batons and steel hands provide the softest contrast to the dial and are perfectly framed by the smooth bezel. The dial is signed ‘Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust’, ‘Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified’ and ‘OT Swiss TO’.

The Movement

The very high grade Rolex signed automatic movement is again in excellent condition and has just been fully serviced by our professional watchmaker. The movement is signed ‘Montres Rolex SA Geneva Swiss’, ‘Twenty Six 26 Jewels’, ‘Adjusted 5 Positions & Temperature’ and the calibre is ‘1570’. The movement number is ‘565987’.

The Strap

To complete this beautiful piece we’ve added a new, super quality Hirsch ‘London’ black alligator strap with a steel aftermarket Rolex buckle.

The Rolex Guarantee

Very rarely we also have the original guarantee certificate – as few as 1 in 75/100 watches of this paperwork. The watch was made in 1971 and sold in November 1974.
