Hallicrafters Model S-85 Shortwave Ham Radio Receiver SN Unknown (Please Read)
This radio is in good condition for its age only showing some wear. The biggest issue is that the AC power cord is starting to crack and will need to be replaced soon. Aside from some other small areas of scuffs, scratches, and marks, a missing dial lamp, and some missing / replaced screws, this is a clean radio! Please note that the internal speaker is a replacement. Although the radio does work it also needs some attention. Please read our technician's notes below.
This item has been tested by our technician, a ham radio operator of more than 55 years. Here's what he had to say: "Tested with RF generator on all bands for signal strength. I found that the radio needs alignment. Other than that, this is a good sounding radio with strong audio and all control functions work!" If you have any questions about this equipment before or after purchasing, our tech will be happy to assist you.
Please realize that this is a vintage piece of equipment, and unless specifically noted above, it has not been fully restored with new components. It will inevitably need maintenance, however it's impossible to know whether that will be next week or a few years down the road. Unless you are capable of doing this work yourself (or have access to someone who can), we suggest you revisit the idea of whether this is the right equipment for you.
