Description: This beautiful figural silverplated vase with vase was made in the true style of Art Nouveau by the German company WMF. It shows typical Art Nouveau "whiplash" motives, controlled lines and shape and feminine figure as the center of the decorative design, and at the same time it is slightly more simple and elegant in style of German version of Art Nouveau called Jugendstil
Widely known by its initials, WMF, the company preferred to create its own designs and so the main proportion of the beautyful creations in Art Nouveau style are from their own Art studio which was directed from 1894 by sculptor and designer Albert Mayer.
The vase is made of silverplated Britannica metal. Very impressive and nicely designed. It is marked with the famous WMF "Ostrich" mark, "B" for Britannica base metal and "i/o" for the normal thickness of plating and "xo" for the oxidation - artificial patination of silver to the grey color.
The center medallion is engraved with inscription: "Verein-Tourenfahren des S.R.B. 1916 III. Kategorie 39 Rang".
That means that the vase was a trophey for a bicycle tour-drive organized by Swiss Bicycle Union (S.R.B. - Swiss Radfahrer Bund) in 1916.
The vase is 9.5" tall. It is in a good condition - there are no damage or repairs and the silver plate shows no wear.
