VTG 1920s Beaded Dress Flapper Egyptian Art Deco Black & White Alphabet Sz M
TRUE VINTAGE.  This is a wonderful and unique dress. The beading is extensive and includes reference to our English alphabet along with what could pass for Egyptian hieroglyphics and the requisite stylized geometric forms of Art Deco. It is in very good, wearable condition. The dress is gathered at the hips with an asymetrical dropped waist with a shorter over skirt in front. Like many gorgeous flapper dresses, the back is spectacular with beading from the collar to the hemline. The fabric is thin chiffon-like silk or maybe rayon which is in good shape with only a couple of pin holes that are unnoticeable. There is no tag inside but the dress is well-made and hand beaded with white and silver glass beads throughout-see photo 12 for stitchery on the reverse side. The dress is best for someone in the medium size range as dresses of this type were never meant to be tightly fitted. May fit a little larger size depending on body type-check measurements.
Measurements are taken across the front with the garment lying flat.
Chest, seam to seam under arms-20 inches
Waist-20 inches
Hips-23 inches
Back, at shoulders, seam to seam-14 inches
Length, in back, from shoulder seam to bottom of garment-46 inches
The mannequin in the pictures has the following measurements:
bust-34 inches, waist-25 inches, hips-33 inches
All measurements approximate
The mannequin in the last picture has the following measurements: Bust-32 inches, waist 23 inches hips 33 inches, 5' 8" in height
Condition: As found-has not been cleaned but doesn't appear soiled. Very good shape overall and in wearable condition. The beading appears tight and well-maintained over most of the garment. The only exception is the small triangular beading at the bottom of the dress. Several of these (about 9 of out of the 25 triangles) have lost beads but could be repaired with beads from the underskirt parts that are beaded but don't show when worn. The losses don't really show unless you are looking for them, as you can see from the full length photos. Only 2 require more than about 10 beads to repair-see photos 13 and 14 of those 2.
