The cover depicts a Nimrod MR2 in its Maritime Reconnaissance role wth a Search and Rescue Westland Sea King below in its distinct yellow livery. The cover bears British Virgin Islands BVI 80th Anniversary of the RAF stamp showing a Supermarine Flying Boat and is cancelled on the first day of issue.

The cover has been flown in a Nimrod of No 206 Squadron from RAF Kinloss in Scotland and return, and has been signed by Group Captain W Metcalfe RAF who was Station Commander of RAF Kinloss
