80th Anniversary of the Royal Air Force FDC depicting Tornado, Canberra, Nimrod and Jaguar cover signed Rory Underwood RAF pilot and famous English Rugby player

JS(CC)42f RAF cover commemorating the 80th Anniversary of the RAF with photographic artwork depicting a Tornado, Canberra, Nimrod and Jaguar which are all used in reconaissance by the RAF. The cover bears two BIOT stamps 26p Blackburn Iris and 80p Avro Lincoln stamp and cancelled on first day of issue 1.4.1998.

The cover is hand signed by Air Chief Marshal Sir John Gingell GBE KCB KCVO and Flight Lieutenant Rory Underwood MBE.

Official special numbered and certified on reverse.

ACM Gingell Entered RAF 1943 and was Fleet Air Arm 1945-1946 as Sub-Lieutenant. He served with 58 and 542 Squadrons and was later OC 27 Squadron, Was Staff of Chief of Defence Staff 1966, Deputy Director Defence Ops Staff 1966-1967< Air Officer Administration RAF germany, Air Officer Commanding 23 Group RAF Training Command 1973-1975, Air Office Coomanding in Chief RAF Support Command 1980-1981, Deputy Commander in Chief Allied Forces Central Europe 1981-1984

Flight Lieutenent Rory Underwood
Flight Lieutenent Rory Underwood joined RAF in 1983. He was awarded his wings in 1985 and was posted to RAF Wyton for Canberra training in 1986 and served as an operational pilot with 360 Squadron. He then converted to the Hawk and served with 100 Squadron, he is also the most capped player to play in the England XV having represented his team since February 1984.
