"NEW WITH EXCEPTION" ("New With Exception" means that these books have never been read or previously owned but have been returned to publisher for credit by the bookstore.  Book sellers will return books to the publisher due to being overstocked, damages during  shipping as well as to make room for new stock.  Once these books are returned to publisher, the publisher will usually put a dot or line mark on the outer edges of the pages.  This mark ensures the publisher that the returned book will never again be returned to the publisher for more credit.  The returned books are then offered to booksellers at a discounted rate.
