smartDEN Opener - IoT smart Garrage Door Controller with Wi-Fi, Relays, I/O, MQTT, HTTP

smartDEN Opener is multifunctional web enabled IoT and Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz wireless 802.11 b/g/n module for controlling garage doors, barriers, awnings, windows, blinds. Its concept is to combine smart IoT solution for managing your door or window via Internet from computer and smart phone while RF 433 MHz remotes are supported as well.

The extra built-in relays can control another two devices and several sensors can be connected as well to provide easy monitoring and sending emails and notifications to smart phone. smartDEN Opener supports internal weekly schedule which enables open/close by date and time and even allowing access for second user (guest or neighbor for example). Internal logs are kept into device EEPROM and can be accessed from any browser. With the DAE-aModules android app it is possible securely to open/close the smartDEN Opener from smart phone and to control it via GPS location (for example when approaching your garage door driving your car).

For system integrators we provide two communication protocols (MQTT and HTTP/XML/JSON) for embedding in third party systems (such as home automation servers) and lot of software examples.

smartDEN Opener overview

Capability to control AC and DC motors

smartDEN Opener is designed to be able to control two types of motors (up to 4A current consumption):

  • Reversible AC asynchronous (induction) motors equipped with limit switches;
  • Reversible DC motors equipped with limit switches;

It comes with two convient nice pocket RF 433 MHz remotes

The RF remotes are for open/close operations and additional can be purchased separately from this link. The working frequency is 433 MHz (which should be allowed in most of the countries). Working distance is 50 meters open area and the security encoding is one of the best for such applications - rolling code. As an extra function, from the remotes it is possible to program the opening (closing) time. The maximum number of stored remotes is 20.

Additional remotes can be ordered from here

Wi-Fi 802.11 Wireless 2.4 GHz interface because it is smart IoT device

  • Wireless Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n standard;
  • External Wi-Fi antenna 3 dBm for better range;
  • Supported Wi-Fi modes: Access Point (AP), Station (STA);
  • Protocols: HTTP, DHCP, DNS, NTP, ICMP (ping), MQTT(QoS 0), XML, JSON, SMTP

Integrated web server for easy control, monitoring and configuration

The smartDEN Opener supports the mandatory built-in web server for easy opening/closing the door, I/O monitoring, timings configurations, setting up the I/O modes and all the other parameters. The module has and small memory for events logs which can be also accessed from web browser. Additionaly an IP camera can be connected to the web server monitoring almost in real time the opening/closing the door.

It is equipped with extra I/O periphery lines

The device is equipped with two SPDT relays for controlling additional lamp, heater and so on. The relays can be turned ON/OFF while opening/closing the door or even based on some input change.

The three Digital Inputs are optically isolated and are very suitable for any button/switch/contact for manual opening/closing the door. A security sensor PIR, smoke, gas, IR beam detector, door sensor or any other with relay output (NO or NC) can be used to control the gate or event to send notification via email or MQTT.

The analog input is with voltage range 0-5VDC and it is suitable for light sensor TSL350R, hummidity sensor HIH-4000 or any other sensor with analog output within the voltage range 0-5VDC. The analog input also can be adjusted to control the door and relays as well.

The temperature input is for one wre sensors DS18B20 and DS18S20 like this one. It can be used for situations when the door is freezing and an email alert can be sent to the user.

Additionally the module provides two extra supply sources for sensors - 5VDC and 12(24)VDC.

Two independent protection modes

The first protection mode is based on measuring the consumed current by the motor in real time and in case of overcurrent it open the door. Usually this is happening when there is critical situation (for example the door is hitting object and that makes to increase the motor consumption).

The second protection mode uses one of the digital inputs with most oftenly connected PIR beam sensor to it. Usually the sensor is installed under the door and in case a movement is detected while the door is closing, it will be opened safely. In case of barrier control an option for auto-close may be activated and then the barrier will be closed automatically when the car deactivates the sensor.

The user can select which protection mode to use - the first one, the second one, none of them or both.

Weekly schedule table

Applications like awnings and blinds control often require actions based on weekly timer. smartDEN Opener, like other smartDEN devices, supports up to 20 weekly schedule events which allow standalone control of the motor, turning relays, enable/disable inputs alarms without need for constant computer connection (standalone).

Android app

smartDEN Opener is supported by DAE-aModules android app. It is possible to be accessed the garage door (opening/closing), the relays, monitoring the sensors, location control and push notifications receiving. For better flexibility, there are two ways for communication with the smartDEN Opener - via cloud or via direct requests.

The iOS app update for DAE-iModules is also on its way for smartDEN Opener support.

Push notifications and Emails

Thanks again to the android app DAE-aModules the smartDEN Opener can send push notifications up on event like door opening or sensor alarm.

The same is valid for the Email notifications as well.

Automatic open the garage door when approaching home

Thanks to our android application DAE-aModules, the user is able to activate a function which allows the smartphone to send open command to the smartDEN Opener while the the user approach the garage door based on the smartphone GPS coordinates.

Support for integrators

smartDEN Opener can be controlled via MQTT requests and HTTP/XML/JSON requests. We provide also range of software examples (SDK) in different platforms.
