Up for sale, a 1967 Vox Spitfire in excellent, 100% original condition and in good working order. This instrument is clean and complete, with original gray tolex hardshell case and Vox-branded bridge cover. One of the more upscale solidbody guitars offered by Vox in their vintage line, this Spitfire was made in Italy by the Eko company, most famous for their innovative designs and sparkly finishes. Clean and original with three jangly single coil pickups and Bigsby-esque vibrato tailpiece, the Spitfire is a versatile and impressive guitar, with plenty of snap and twang from the pickups, and an immediacy and cut to the note attack. Professionally setup and currently strung with fresh 11-50 roundwound strings, this Spitfire weighs 6lbs 10oz and plays great!
The maple neck has a big chunky C shaped profile, more of a medium C shape for easy chording at the nut, but quickly growing to full “baseball bat” depth with great shoulders and roundness as you travel up the fretboard. The original slender frets are intact and very clean, with sparingly light uniform wear on frets 1-3 and virtually no wear further up the fretboard. Allowing for the zero fret, the scale length measures 25" and the nut is 1 5/8" in width. On the headstock, the original Vox stamped tuning machines are intact and turn smoothly, holding pitch as they should.
The electronics are 100% stock and untouched, with strong output from all three pickups. The Vox vibrato unit has near spotless chrome plating and a smooth Bigsby-like action, perfect for surfy warbles and deeper dives with ease! The pickguards on these Italian Vox guitars were notorious for shrinking, but this one exhibits very little of this with only one tiny crack on the corner near the engraved "Vox Spitfire" text. The three-tone Sunburst finish is clean and vibrant, and cosmetic wear is limited to just a few faint finish scratches in the clear coat and minor nicks. The neck profile has a smooth ambered gloss finish and exhibits no wear aside from a bit of light checking. This guitar looks fantastic and would definitely satisfy the discerning Vox collector.
The original hardshell case is included, along with the original string mute and Vox-branded bridge cover.
