Cube and square, in art and philosophy, represent the earth or the creation and its perfection in opposition to the sphere and the circle that want to illustrate the celestial perfection. The cube in some way represents a rigid form of perfection: its faces are all the same, as each square is composed of identical and overlapping sides. The square is the second of the most important symbols: if the circle represents dynamism, the square is a static figure, anchored on all four sides, by the four right angles. The square like the cube is the expression of the static, of the solidified manifestation.

Carrara marble is the marble par excellence. It is mined in Carrara, a small town famous for its landscape dominated by white mountains characterized by open-air marble basins, located along the northern Tuscany coast. The first to appreciate the artistic and commercial aspect of Carrara marble were the Romans, who used it for the construction of imperial palaces or for the creation of statues since the first century BC. The marble industry, however, reached its maximum prestige towards the end of the fifteenth century with the arrival of great Renaissance personalities. The landscape of the Carrara quarries is the result of the interaction between man and territory, from the original natural conditions of a few white rocks to the present day with an impressive increase in the size of the marble areas, which gave rise to a scenario unique in the world.
