Rare Silver Vase with Glass Insert by Josef Hoffmann for Wiener Werkstätte
A Wiener Werkstatte silver reticulated flower basket with original glass insert in a very rare model made with silver. Designed by Josef Hoffmann (Austrian, 1870-1956), Vienna, circa 1906 and produced by the Wiener Werkstatte from 1906-1916 in silver, silver-plated base metal, and zinc-plated iron as part of the "Gitterwerk" collection. The iconic design features the perforated square with looped reticulated handle. Branded with both Wiener Werstatte's logos, Josef Hoffman's artist cypher, 800 silver mark, and an Austrian silver mark. An amazing piece of work from Vienna Secession movement in wonderful form and condition. An identical model in silver is in the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, museum number M.15-1982, and presently on display in the 20th century Gallery, Room 74, case CA4, box 57 along with other pieces from the 'Gitterwerk' series.
