Knitting pattern to make classic 1940s fair isle/striped jumper using three colours.

The original pattern uses 3ply wool.  You can use modern 4ply, which is similar in weight. You would need to knit a tension square to ensure the finished garment was the size you wanted.  Use smaller or larger needles to adjust size.

  • Size: 34-36 inch bust.
  • Materials required: 3 ply yarn.
    • approximately  5 ounces (142 grams) main colour.  1 ounce (28.3 grams) each in two contrast colours.  The original pattern used grey for the main colour with red and navy as the contrast colours.
    • Pair each No. 13 (2.25 mm), No. 12 (2.75 mm), No. 10 (3.00 mm)  knitting needles.

Due to the age of the pattern, the original yarn suggested may not be available.  It is recommended to crochet/knit a tension square with your chosen yarn, before starting, to ensure the finished garment or item is the size you require.
