Knitting pattern, instructions to make classic 1940s aran/cable design jumper.

The original pattern uses 3ply wool.  You can use modern 4ply, which is similar in weight. You would need to knit a tension square to ensure the finished garment was the size you wanted.  Use smaller or larger needles to adjust size.

  • Size: 34 - 36 inch bust. Using 4ply or DK yarn and larger needles will enable you to knit a larger size if you want to.
  • Materials required: 3 ply yarn.
    • Approximately  6 - 8 ounces (170 - 227 grams). Amounts will vary depending on whether you are making the jumper with long or short sleeves and the make of yarn used.
    • Pair each No. 12 (2.75 mm), No. 10 (3.00 mm)  knitting needles.
    • 3 buttons.
  • Tension: 7 1/2 sts and 10 rows to an inch using No. 10 (3.00 mm) needles.

Due to the age of the pattern, the original yarn suggested may not be available.  It is recommended to crochet/knit a tension square with your chosen yarn, before starting, to ensure the finished garment or item is the size you require.

From August 2020 eBay are charging sellers for handling payments per individual transaction.  As such I will continue to combine postage for multiple patterns 'paid for separately', however, unfortunately I cannot refund the new eBay payment handling charges.  Please purchase multiple patterns together in one transaction for automatic postage discounts.
