We think buying an authentic Japanese Knife of this quality for under $100 is a good deal.

SHOGUN - CENTURIES OF TRADITION AND PERFECTION
For over one thousand years, Japanese sword and knife makers have been renowned for crafting the world’s sharpest, hardest and most refined blades. Shogun knives are forged following the same ancient techniques handed down by generations of master smiths to handcraft knives for the 21st century. The Shogun in Japan was a warlord – a supreme leader of the Samurai; the feared warrior caste – symbolising strength, beauty, pursuit of perfection, ingenuity, endurance, attention to detail and most importantly of all – honour. All of these qualities are embodied in our range of Shogun knives.

Shogun 150mm Japanese Hammered Damascus Petty Utility Paring Knife
Made in Seki, Japan, the acknowledged home of the finest Japanese knife and sword makers in the world using skills honed over almost a thousand years, this knife is a collaboration of Europe's best steel and Japanese tradition. The Swedish steel edge is sandwiched with several Japanese steels. The handle has a Japanese traditional shape and very elegant finish.

  1. Blade material: Sandvik 19C27 High Carbon Stainless Steel sandwiched with several Japanese steels. Sandvik is one of the biggest steel companies in the world which was founded in Sweden 1862. And this [19C27] is highest quality steel from Sandvik. Very sharp, hard (HRC : 60-61) and has resistance to oxidation.
  2. Handle: This knife has a special traditional Wa or ocatgonal handle made of Pakkawood.  It is lightweight, highly resistant to water and easy to care.
  3. 45-Layers Hammered Damascus Patterning: Handcrafted by master artisans using superior materials creating a unique one of a kind work of art. There is not another duplicate anywhere in the world. The hammered texture of the blade enhances the unique beauty of this knife, but it is also functional in that it reduces friction and keeps food from sticking to the blade.

About Petty Utility Knives

Petty knives are small utility knives of Japanese design. Sometimes a chef knife is just way too big. We are finding many women in particular, love the size of this knife because it is not too big, but still large enough and capable enough, of handling many of the tasks normally reserved for the larger chef knife, without being too unwieldy. Plus it is also scalpel sharp making cutting jobs safer, precise and more efficient.

The Petty knife is a small general-purpose knife used for peeling, shaping, and slicing fruits and vegetables, chopping herbs, and making garnishes. The compact size and relatively narrow blade of the Petty knife mean that it is very nimble and controllable, thus it is ideal for making precise cuts.

Features:

  • Extraordinarily Sharp Straight out of the Box
  • Handcrafted in Seki, Japan

  • Blade Length: 150mm * Blade Length of the Knife defines the length from top edge of the blade to the end, Not at the root of steel.
  • Superior sharpness, durable, stain resistant
  • Elegant, hammered texture
  • Durable Pakkawood Handle - Traditional Wa Octagon Handle (Colour may vary, due to natural products)

Correct Use and Care

Using Japanese-style kitchen knives guarantees exceptional cutting pleasure. They are a joy to use. The high hardness of the blade allows for thin, precise sharpening making for an insanely sharp edge which will last a long time with normal use. These properties also increase the risk of damage when not using the knife properly. Don’t worry, maintaining a Japanese knife is easy, and kind of fun. As with any high performance tool, it requires some simple maintenance, common sense and TLC to ensure your knife is always in tip top condition and free of damage:

  • To avoid accidental injury and blade damage, treat knives with respect and always take care when handling these knives.
  • Sharpen only using a Whetstone and / or leather strop. Do not use a pull through sharpener, or sharpening / honing steel.
  • Do not use your knife for dense work such as cartilage, bone, nuts and frozen foods.
  • Always clean your knife after use should only be rinsed, not soaked, in warm soapy water and immediately wiped dry with a soft, clean cloth. No knife is completely stainless due to the high carbon content. Whilst the risk of any type of corrosion is extremely low, a good routine will help avoid any discoloration, spotting or corrosion. Japanese chefs often use a drop of Camellia oil to add an extra layer of protection.
  • Never place your fine Japanese-style knife into the dishwasher on any setting. You will damage your exquisite blade, your handle or both.
  • Keep your knife in a knife block, on magnetic strip or in a wooden knife sheath or Saya cover to protect the blade and prevent damage to the cutting edge by other utensils.
  • Cutting on a soft, non-abrasive surface such as timber or plastic cutting board will help prevent premature dulling of the blade. Metal, bamboo or glass surfaces not recommended.
  • Never use your knife as a lever for opening cans or bottles and never try to flex or bend your knife as this can cause chipping or cracking in the blade, the edge or the Damascus cladding.
  • Silk printed logos are not quite as durable as laser printed but they are beautiful and will last just as long if treated with care. D not use abrasive cleaners or metal cleaners on the logo. Simply wipe clean with water and detergent only.

Warranty and Return Information
We guarantee any knife we sell to be free from defect in material, construction or workmanship for a period of 12 months under normal use and following proper care instructions. This excludes damage caused by misuse or accident. No dropping, cutting bones, pits or cutting on improper surfaces. Chips in the knife blade, broken knife tips, discolorations from food and rust spots are not covered. This warranty extends only to the product's original purchaser. Please take care of your new knife and it will reward you with years of faithful service.
