In a prize binding from the City of London School, with a prize inscription to the recto to the front free endpaper, 'To J. H. J. Frampton, for the best chalk drawing from the flat. Midsummer 1873. J. R. D... Drawing Master'.

An interesting work looking at the history, practice, and themes of art in the Middle Ages and Renaissance.

Written by Paul Lacroix. Lacroix was a French author and journalist, best known by the pseudonym 'Bibliophile Jacob'. He also wrote 'Historical Costumes of France from the most Authentic Monuments', and more.

Translated into English by James Dafforne. Dafforne was a journalist, known for 'The Art Journal', an art criticism periodical.

With a chromolithographic frontispiece, eighteen chromolithographic plates, and numerous in-text monochrome engravings.

Illustrated by F. Kellerhoven.

Collated, complete.


CONDITION

In a full calf binding. Externally, generally smart. Light rubbing and marking to the boards and spine. Ink inscription to the recto to the front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with the odd spot.
