DESCRIPTION

A first edition copy of Auberon Waugh's novel 'Who are the Violets Now?', with inscription from the author.

A tragi-comedy, this novel by Waugh follows Arthur Friendship, a advice columnist for a women's magazine. Depressed by his job, he counteracts his job by working for a peace organisation. Infatuated with the lovely Elizabeth Pedal, Friendship's plans don't turn out exactly how he would like.

Inscription to the front endpaper reads, 'For Alex ... With many apologies, from the author, Bron' and is dated 1965. The author Auberon Waugh was often known by the nickname Bron.

Auberon Waugh was a English journalist, known widely by his nickname Bron. During his career, he wrote for numerous media outlets, including Private Eye. Despite being well received, Auberon Waugh only wrote 5 novels during his lifetime.


CONDITION

In original full cloth binding, with unclipped dustwrapper. Externally, very smart. Slight bumping to the spine, mainly to the head. Slight rubbing to the extremities. Minor spotting to the topedge and to the foredge. Slight spotting to the front pastedown. Inscription to the front recto endpaper, 'For Alex ... With many apologies, from the author, Bron'. Dustwrapper is smart, with some chipping to the head of the spine. Minor bumping to the extremities. Slight cracking to the rear joint. Mark to the rear of the wrap to the head. Scratch to the rear of the wrap to the tail. Offsetting internally to the wrap. Slight spotting to the rear of the wrap. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
