DESCRIPTION

Jules Girardin was born at Loches in 1832. He trained as a teacher and taught at number of local schools before obtaining a Chair at the Lyceum in Versailles. He wrote prolifically for magazines publishing belles-lettres type fiction, and for young peoples's journals. In his later years, he focussed on morally informative novels for young people.

Here we have one such offering, illustrated beautifully with superb and plentiful plates.

The volume is prefaced with a short commemorative biography of M. Girardin, who passed away following a sudden stroke at the gare Montparnasse in 1888.
