ARRIFLEX 35-III (3rd generation) super35mm camera package, exceptionally well-equipped with many rare accessories. This particular camera is the final & most advanced version (mk3 "washboard" type gate), and has also been further upgraded to the highest possible specification:
- modified for super35mm shooting (S35 ground glass currently fitted)
- Cinematography Electronics crystal-sync & variable hi-speed motor base
- Jurgens video door (including PAL colour video tap & cables)
This equipment is from the personal inventory of a professional cinematographer (now surplus to requirements) and has had relatively light use in recent years, compared to ex-rental stock. Well-maintained & stored in a dry, temperature controlled environment.
Many classic movies, commercials & music videos were filmed using the Arri 35-III. It was designed for MOS shooting, and is not soundproofed. The design prioritised compact size and weight, and high-speed frame rates (for slow-motion and special effects). An industry workhorse for several decades, highly adaptable for any shooting situation, and very robust. These cameras can still be found in use today, for example on movies with big action scenes, where many additional cameras are needed to cover stunts / explosions etc (e.g. Furious 7, The Thin Red Line, Leon, Master & Commander, Pirates of the Caribbean, Mission Impossible 3, etc).
Some history...
The 35-III was released around 1979, to replace the ubiquitous arri 35-IIc. The design was improved over the course of three versions (winning an Academy Award for Engineering in 1988) until it was finally replaced by the Arri 435 in 1995. In spite of the 435's success, the 35-III continued to be stocked by the big camera houses for many years after that - for use on big action scenes, or as a budget rental option for independent film-makers.
It's unlikely you will ever find a better equipped 35-III camera kit for sale. This auction includes a generous selection of accessories that will cover pretty much any situation - so this kit is ready for you to start shooting right away!
